The first field trials of the prototype Optical Global Positioning System (Optical GPS) were successfully completed.
The idea of Optical GPS is to determine the global coordinates
of an object using a single photo (without the use of classical GPS, Lidar and other
navigation systems).
The advantage of such a system is that it allows to determine
the coordinates with higher accuracy than classical GPS (especially in a city or
indoors).
The practical area of application of the system is unmanned vehicles, UAVs, navigation
inside buildings, navigation in cases where the GPS signal may be discredited.
